TWIST, Tablet Weavers' International Studies and Techniques was born in 1994
at Convergence in Minneapolis. Pirkko Karnoven of Canada agreed to be the first
coordinator. Each member of the group submitted an article once a year for the
journal. Three times during the year these were sent to Pirkko who made copies,
and sent them out to the membership. Near the end of her agreed upon two-year
obligation the group had grown to over sixty people and the TWIST Journal was
born.
We are indeed an international group with over 200 members from all over the
world!
The purpose of TWIST (Tablet Weavers' International Studies and Techniques)
is to promote the appreciation of tablet weaving and the development of tablet
weaving skills through the journal, an Internet discussion group and web site,
and exhibitions. We hold a meeting every two years at Convergence and members
schedule meetings at regional conferences as well. We have an excellent
collection of library books on tablet weaving that are available for loan to
members.
Our journal comes out three times a year (Spring, Summer, Fall). It contains
articles by members on historical and modern aspects of tablet weaving,
announcements of upcoming exhibitions and workshops, gallery pages, instruction,
product and book reviews, and other announcements of general interest.
Membership in TWIST is open to anyone with an interest in tablet weaving.
Guilds that wish to receive the TWIST Journal for their library may do so by
paying the regular membership fee. The cost of membership per year is $10.00 if
you live in the United States, $13.00 if you live in Canada and $15.00 if you
live elsewhere. All payment is in American dollars, drawn on a US bank.
